The Reality Check

I decided to turn the question around. I asked these same friends to rate their AI knowledge on a scale of 1-10, with ten being expert level and one being complete novice. Surprisingly, the highest rating I received was a 5.

Then I presented that friend with a list of 30 AI tools and asked which ones he had used. Out of thirty tools, he had only tried two: ChatGPT and Gemini. "Do you still think you're a five?" I asked. His honest response: "No, I guess I'm really a two!"

When he asked if I knew all those tools, I could confidently say yes. I had personally used every single one and understood their capabilities and limitations. The frustrating part? What they couldn't do last week, they can often accomplish this week. That's the nature of AI – it evolves at breakneck speed.

The Obsession That Changed Everything

"How do you keep up with it?" he wanted to know. The answer was simple: complete immersion. Over six months, I had done a deep dive into AI so thorough that my wife asked one evening, "Can't we watch something besides AI videos?"

I admit it – I became obsessed. People started making fun of me because AI was all I would talk about. But this obsession was productive. I built my first app, launched my first website, created my first video marketing campaign, and started my first podcast. I was building businesses left and right, leveraging AI's incredible power.

My wife Jen would wake up to find me eagerly waiting to show her the new video, song, or website I had created while she slept. I couldn't contain my excitement about what was possible. When I started sharing these discoveries with friends, something remarkable happened – it began changing their lives too. They were creating new businesses because of AI's transformative power.

Discovering the Opportunity

Then I read a startling report: 95% of businesses knew they needed to deploy AI, but 75% had no idea how to implement it. The lightbulb moment hit me – someone needs to teach people how to harness this technology. AI is far more than just ChatGPT.

I began surveying business owner friends about their AI knowledge and needs. It was incredible how little they understood about what might be the most powerful business leverage tool ever created. This research confirmed my suspicion: there was a massive education gap that needed filling.

That's when Live AI Workshops was born. But I knew from experience that only 6% of people ever finish online courses. There had to be a better way.

The Science of Learning

I remembered a lesson from my volunteer days at a nonprofit. While training me on equipment, they shared the retention rates for different learning methods:

• We remember 10% of what we read

• We remember 20% of what we hear

• We remember 30% of what we read aloud

• We remember 50% of what we see

• We remember 90% of what we do and then teach to others

The key insight: if you want someone to truly learn something, show them, tell them, have them do it, and then have them explain how they did it. When they can teach it back, it becomes theirs.

This principle became the foundation of our workshops. We don't just show people – we let them do it themselves and then explain their process to others. When they reach that level, the knowledge is truly integrated.
